Is an online multiplayer game a good way to make money?
I know how to make online multiplayer game, but is it worth the effort? I heard once the game is ready you’ll need to run it free for the players for a couple years and encouraging donations from the players. Then, when the customer base is big enough you change the model to pay-for-play.
Is this a good business model for money?
Yeah, I agree with most of these guys here… the game has to be good for people to be interested in it, you’ve got to have the marketing there, etc. All of this requires a huge investment of time and money, plus hiring employees. For example, you’d need someone to do marketing research to find the best ways to reach your target demographic. You’ve got to have someone proof read all the dialogue, someone to ensure you’re not unwittingly using someone else’s ideas, etc. All this takes a whole lot, and when your competition is Blizzard and Sony Online Entertainment, you’ve got your work cut out for you.
