There are several moments in life when it is important to reflect on what we can do well. In the last year I found a need to carefully consider what skills and commercial interests that have developed over the years. Through this assessment – both my husband and alone, and some ideas with a counselor at the center of our local small businesses – I got the idea of teaching baking and sewing. These are two skills I have had since I was young and almost a second nature to me, improving the opportunity to make some money on the side by holding some classes.
I have found the current teaching classes has not been the most difficult, but has been in search of places in the market and teach these classes. I called the local area Parks and Recreation departments I contacted and Girl Scouts. Most of the supply and drop spring classes. Advertising in local newspapers or even a bulletin board in a grocery store are two other possibilities for getting the word out.
Both the Girl Scout Liaison and the Director of Parks and Recreation I contacted showed genuine interest. The Director of Parks and Recreation encouraged me to take a class size because the amount of interest – that was in my students desired minimum. I did so with the recognition that if these ladies are satisfied with their experience, they will spread the word to other friends, increasing the likelihood of similar more economically productive classes to come. While it is easier to work with a smaller group practice, especially when one is in the best way to teach something to people who have no experience, trade in financial compensation should be considered. For my 6-week class, I charge $ 10 for the kit of materials and $ 12 to 15 per class session for each attendee. It also allowed the ladies to pay only for the weeks they attend. To teach this kind of sewing, I had to take the supplies they need to have available for my students – irons, ironing boards (compact and regular), cutting mats, rotary cutters and scissors enough for 10 students. The charge of ten dollars for the kit materials are intended to cover the cost of material, pattern and yarn. Planning ahead by the purchase of adequate supplies at the farm and garage sales to make the cost of this payment more manageable.
For my kind of bread-making in the Department Parks and Recreation, I put on a demonstration, but gave women the opportunity to feel the dough and see each step in the process. I usually some grain for them, too. And I passed out copies of the instructions step by step routine of making bread from scratch. The fees for this class is $ 150. As someone who already has most of essential elements in the kitchen, I realized I only need to replace my measuring cups and spoons to maintain a professional appearance. After 15 years, beloved tools begin to show its age. This time I invested in stainless steel instead of plastic.
I found that driving to and fro and education of these classes do not have much of my time. However, it is important to recognize the need to devote much time to make a list and pick up supplies in advance and plan the time enough to unload the truck and get supplies in and configure. Asking about the cables and water supplies in the installation of some details that I needed to remember. The practice of making my presentation to someone who would be critical, but it gives me an opportunity to express aloud what I had planned to say and give me input constructive helped give me confidence in my ability to communicate. Bring samples of the desired result – whether is a simple pledge I had made or samples of bread and pastries, with recipes for – has helped pave the way for women to invest the time and effort to start learning a new skill, too.
Assessment opportunities as I went along and in the conclusion of the course gives you learn from mistakes and recognizing the growth in their own skills and ability to communicate effectively.
In general, I like the benefits of teaching these classes because they do not take me away from home for an excessive amount of time. I can make a contribution our revenues while building my confidence in my abilities. It is much easier to make money through what you already know. I suggest that also brainstorm with her husband and friends to see what they can earn money teaching what you know.
